Ever since I started asking you what your two most burning about were, I received so many that I can’t keep track of them. It would help me a lot if you placed them here. This way they will be all just in one place and I won’t have to go through all my emails.

Please don’t leave you comments about my e-course or material here. I’ll give you plenty of space for that.

If you don’t know how to leave a comment, just click on the title of this post “Ask Your Top 2 Here” and you’ll see a list of comments. You can add yours at the bottom of the page.

How can we avoid herpes outbreaks while taking antibiotics?

Are the claims of Dr. Cass Ingram’s about Oil of Oregano, the capsules and the oil true in errandicating herpes? See references below.

Can everclear alcohol be helpful for eliminating the outbreaks at the first sign of them as stated by a vet on the internet by using one tablespoon of distilled water and then filling up to an 8oz mark and putting the solution in a spray bottle to use on outbreaks?

My husband has herpes and I’ve heard I can get it from him even between his outbreaks because the virus can be on the surface of the skin. I have him douse himself in rubbing alcohol (70%)before we have sex (every time), and since this kills germs, I was wondering if this will protect me from getting it? Wouldn’t the alcohol kill any herpes viruses that are on the skin? And, of course, we avoid sex completely if he is having an outbreak until he’s healed. I think this is a good idea, is there any reason why it shouldn’t work? Thanks

You cant purse herpes out of your body- you can get it to stay dormant.

Avoid a lot of chocolate, peanut butter, caffeine, sodas, sugars, nuts as these things aggravate it and get some sleep. Sleep helps repair the body and will help you to keep it dormant.

      Hi!

I was diagnosed with genital herpes 6 weeks ago. I feel like I’m constantly in the prodrome phase. I’m now down to 2 Valtrex a day (2 grams), but if I try to reduce my dosage even by a 1/2 of a pill, my nerve pain comes back with a vengeance! I’ve never had any blisters, just terrible nerve pain across my genitals, down my legs and also in my feet and sometimes hands! I’ve started on high dosages of Red Marine Algae and Lyceine. My depression about this whole thing is really starting to sink in. Even at 2 pills a day, my nerve pain will keep me awake at night. Everyone talks about this prodrome phase, but I feel like it’s ALWAYS with me. I am going to order your book.
I’m afraid my life has changed forever!

      1) Very afraid of transmitting to someone. Over the fact that I have it, only fear is giving it someone.
How can you prevent transmission even without the use of condoms? (in a serious and monogamous relationship)

      2) Is it true that with time, the virus decreases in strength therefore decreases outbreaks and risk of transmission?

Thank you so much Nathalie, all information is appreciated and listened to.

    43. Alexander Says:
      May 22nd, 2008 at 4:53 am

Hello Angela, sorry to hear about your situation. There are two scenarios which you should consider:

1: If you are asymptomatic ie, you do not have symptoms or get outbreaks, you may experience what is called asymptomatic shedding. During this period, you are contagious as the virus is active and on the surface of the skin. It is hard to know when asymptomatic people are shedding, as they do not experience the telltale symptoms. Those people need to be in tune with their bodies and look for subtle signs/triggers. When you are not shedding, you should not e contagious. Asymptomatic people can experience three to four periods of “shedding” per year. If you are asymptomatic, follow Nathalie’s recommendations on proper diet, supplements, rest and mental attitude, to decrease the number of incidents of shedding.

2: You get outbreaks, hence you experience symptoms. As soon as you feel any of the symptoms, you are prodrome and hence contagious. You should not partake in sexual activity until you have completely cleared from having symptoms/outbreaks. After the symptoms have gone and the outbreak has cleared, the virus goes into what is called a “dormant” state and you should no longer be contagious.
There is no evidence to suggest that using condoms during prodrome or shedding periods will 100% protect your partner from becoming infected. It is recommended to desist from sexual activity during these times.

      Hey thanks Alex,

Actually there are some statistics about condoms that say you cut transmission risks by half if you use them. Condoms are useless if you get symptoms in your inner thighs or any place that is not covered by them.

I have been using Purell on my skin whenever I feel tingling and I am getting amazing results! Why does the virus seem to retreat when I use purell? Why aren’t many other people using it? It burns on open skin but after it burns it makes me not blister and it prevents breakouts. What is it about purell that works so well and why don’t doctors tell people to use it?

Are there different strains of herpes, apart from types 1 and 2? I acquired herpes in sub-Saharan Africa from an African man. Is there an African strain that is different from say, a North American strain? I’ve never heard of it, but I wonder, because I think my symptoms are worse than what I usually read about from other people. I know it’s largely from my own stress levels and diet, but I’ve had 4 outbreaks in the last month!! One started immediately as another one was ending. Is it possible that there are tropical strains that are more virulent than those from temperate climates?

I was diagnosed in April. I had an outbreak in September 2007 that upon swab and blood testing came back negative for the virus and had a shingles outbreak at the same time(2 days after initial outbreak surfaced). The April outbreak came after a weekend of intercourse with a girlfriend, but I suspect the previous encounter as she’s not testing positive. 1)Is it possible to have swab and blood tests come back as a false negative (perhaps if it’s too soon to have developed antibodies)?
      2) Is is safe to give oral sex to a woman if I’m shedding or in outbreak (genital herpes)or is the virus in my saliva and non-genital skin as well?

      kate: Hello Kate,
It is true that not everybody has to change their diet but it often helps people with severe symptoms or constant recurrences.

I know someone who had an outbreak only once in her life. I talk to people who never do but still test positive.
It all depends on your situation, your age, other conditions you might have and your immune system.

For example, women who tend to have herpes outbreaks during PMS or menstruation should watch their diet at that time.

This is quite precise. There has been a study suggesting that the severity of symptoms is genetically inherited. Another study tries to explain why some people have a lot of outbreaks and others don’t with the variation of natural killer cells activity among people. NKC are part of the immune system…

You should feel very lucky to have been blessed with extremely rare outbreaks.

False negative swab tests are common. However positive swab tests are extremely rare.

      2) Is is safe to give oral sex to a woman if I’m shedding or in outbreak (genital herpes)or is the virus in my saliva and non-genital skin as well?

Herpes is in your skin and nerve cells, not your saliva. The problem with oral sex is that you can catch oral herpes from genital herpes or give genital herpes with oral herpes.

Are you sure you don’t have oral herpes and that your partner doesn’t have genital herpes? If so I don’t see why not.

It is usually impossible to know for 100% sure because blood tests only tell you that the virus is in your body not where. If you have HSV-2 genital herpes, you should be on the safer side though.

Hi, both my partner and I have herpes. We have unprotected sex and me being the male receive little red “marks” on my penis that take 6 or so weeks to disappear. They are not traditional outbreaks- I average about 1 of those per year and they are severe and excrete. These are simply little “flecks” on the surface of the skin. My partner shows no symptons at all but she is positive. Is there any way of having unprotected sex with her and not contracting these little red flecks on my penis? Its no big deal, its just that I’de prefer not to look at it all the time.

      Hello Herb,

I started writing for people with genital herpes but as both oral herpes and genital herpes can be caused by either HSV-1 or HSV-2, the information I give is valid for both.

The only difference is that oral herpes requires more discreet topical treatment.
In your situation, i.e. not too many symptoms, I would suggest you try homeopathy.
There are a lot of things you can do to prevent symptoms, the first one being paying attention to what happens before symptoms. Was it stress, menstruation, certain types of foods, an emotion like anger or guilt, anxiety, fatigue, sun exposure…that triggered the infection?

I give a lot of clues in the audio recording of my teleconference. I suggest you listen to it.

I was taking Valtrex for 7 days, did not get any better, had severe pain and itching, contacted my doctor who told me to refill the medicine and that I was getting better, but two days later I had allergic reaction to Valtrex. I took benadryl for three days which cured everything but the ongoing yeast infection I got from the Valtrex ontop of the herpes. I am still miserably itchy and my doctor only says,”buy yeast medication, if that doesn’t work come back”. I think this is the lamest thing I have ever heard. If I didn’t feel bad about having the herpes before now I feel REALLY BAD. What is your opinion? does this happen to other women?

Ann: lysine should not be used on a regular basis as it lowers your overall adatogenic immune response. It is useful, 500mg, 3xs a day (usual rec) at first sign of symptoms e.g. tingling sensation, nerve-like pain, burning, etc. Lemon balm is an anti-viral herb that is easy to find and can be taken as a tea or tincture daily as a nirvine and as a preventative. If an outbreak occurs, rub dragon’s blood resin (from tree sap, found at health food stores) or try diluted lavender essential oil (directly on sores/blisters). Epsom salt baths are great too as are deep breaths.

      Nathalie Foy’s reply:
Thank you very much from this information. However from the scientific information I have gathered, lysine is much more likely to be effective for prevention than treatment. I sometimes suggest taking l-lysine for a few months until other remedies like homeopathic treatments become fully effective.

There is a form of lavender essential oil that works really well on herpes. It’s called aspic lavender. It’s harder to find and a bit on the harsh side but its effectiveness has been demonstrated in Germany.

I have genital herpes my partner does not if we decide to have oral sex, also if he decides to finger me will he contract herpes even tho I am taking valtrex

      Nathalie Foy says :

I cannot explain herpes transmission here but let me give you some information.
Herpes is transmitted from skin to skin. Valtrex doesn’t cut all the risks of transmitting herpes. If his skin comes in contact with yours and herpes is present, there is a chance he will get herpes from you.
However if you pay close attention to your symptoms and have sex when you don’t feel anything you have fewer chances to transmit herpes. You will have to learn how to increase awareness of the mildest symptoms and pay attention to what triggers herpes. It may be stress, anxiety, PMS… Avoid sexual contact when those triggers are present and you feel a tingle or flu like symptoms or anything you already felt during an outbreak.

also if i am taking the valtrex and I use a condom can my partner get herpes.

      Nathalie Foy says :

Unfortunately, this only reduces transmission risks but doesn’t remove them. That’s why you need to do as much as possible to prevent transmission.

Can I get reduce the break-outs fast?
What are the first symptoms? I dont have a docter and dont really know the first symptoms I think I might have it.

      Nathalie Foy says:
Outbreaks are much better prevented than treated but if taken care of really early on, yes you can stop an outbreak.

I been with the same person for 2 years I know he don’t have it, because he had to get tested for his military postion.
How can I find out when I got it if I can find out?

      Nathalie Foy says :

I’m sorry but I don’t think there is a way to date when you caught herpes. You may look at your herpes symptom history. However, this may not tell you for sure when or from whom you got it.

I just found out that i have herpes about 1 month ago because i thought i had a yeast infection. I got 1 sore and it went away but, my discharge is still weird. It’s like wet tissue paper and then sometimes jelly-like. Does that mean I’m still contagious or what does it even mean?

Right now I’m taking Super Lysine, Cat’s claw, vitamin-e, multi-vitamin, calcium & magnesium, and acidophilous plus exercise and water. I haven’t got another out break yet. Is there anything that I need to change or add to my world of vitamins?

      Nathalie Foy says :

I think you may have both. Did you visit a doctor? Yeast infection can make herpes symptoms worse or can make a silent herpes infection become noticeable. I would say, you need a proper diagnosis. The internet is not a goo place for this. One thing is absolutely certain though, you must avoid sodas, sugar, refined wheat flour produces, caffeine for a while.

I have been in a monogomous relationship with my girlfrend for nine months now. Several weeks ago I noticed several red bumps on the head of my penis along with discoloration on the base of my penis. I have not went to the doctor, but I am pretty confident that it is a herpes outbreak. Both of us have been tested for STDs before we engaged in sexual intercourse with each other. I am almost positive that she is not cheating on me. What is your take on the situation?

      Nathalie Foy says :
Did you take a blood test? Maybe you or your girlfriend had a short romance before within 3 to 4 meeting each other. Blood tests detect antibodies (body reaction to herpes antigens). It takes some time for the body to create them and in that time frame someone can be infected with herpes and yet test negative.

My gynaecologist was extremely bad in her attitude when she pronounced her diagnosis. This is not even confirmed as yet. I had a full range of blood tests in 2006 just before my partner and i started our ivf treatment ( successful on first go )and neither of us tested positive for herpes.I just cannot get comfortable with the idea. How do others cope with this awful feeling of being somehow ” dirty” or is that just me?

      Thanks for this site!!

Continuing my last comment, I took in a photo of herpes outbreaks on the hands ( my partner gets these) and when I went back tot he gynaecologist she had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what the photos were until I told her! Still no result for herpes test. In a way I am lucky because my man and I are both open about these kind of issues and if the tests are positive we know the way herpes works and can lie dormant for years - no thanks to an unhelpful gynaecologist!!!

Judy: It is probably because when you have intercourse it can irritate your vagina, which can contribute to a outbreak. Try using lube, or having more foreplay before intercourse.

Having been diagnosed with herpes 1 in the genital area just a few days ago my 2 questions are as follows:
      - how can i relax about the possibility of recurring outbursts (especially as i’m afraid it will happen, as the initial one, when i’m having my period) and thus lose the added stress of knowing i have the disease
      - how can i prevent further outbursts as easily and reliably as possible (i’m depressed etc, not really in a good place in life overall)

      Thanks.

I found out I have had herpes for 5 months now or at least syptoms just started to show. I feel like I am unable to deal with the chronic headaches and stomach pains. I try to stay stress free and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. I heard herpes can cause the pancreas to weaken. Could this be why my stomach aches? I also heard that if herpes gets to the brain it can instantly kill you. Have you heard of this?

I believe I have recently acquired herpes from my husband of 22 years. I think that because I am post menopausal that my vaginal tissues were more susceptible to the virus. Since this is my first infection, I have been suffering greatly. I have genital, anal and urethral swelling. I also have labial varicose veins, which I had during pregancy 21 years ago. I have difficulty urinating and defecating. There are no lesions. I also have tingling and pain down my legs, nausea and low grade fever. After 2 weeks I finally got on the anti viral medication acyclovir. It is beginning to work about 4 days later. I am worried about subsequent infections. How bad will they be?

It doesn’t go away with tylenol or ibuprofen, etc. I’ve learned to assosicate it with an outbreak but what is it and why does it hurt so bad when there isn’t anything there? I have just started dating a woman with behcets disease. She is scared to even touch me now that she knows I have HBV 2. Her doctor told her if she were to contract herpes it would be really bad for her considering she has an autoammune disorder. I am wondering what the SAFEST sex techniques there are. I’m not sure if it’s different in a lesbian relationship. I do know a condom won’t help. :) Thank you.
